My New Holy Grail for Hair Care | Color Safe, Sulfate Free, Drugstore Price

I think I found my favorite hair care line. I’ve been a drugstore girl all my life and this fits that budget and makes me feel GOOD when I wash my hair. And the best part? It’s designed for colored hair.

I’m both a natural and artificial redhead, sounds redundant, but my color faded to a brownish red when I stopped forcing myself out into the sun for hours on fishing trips, so I’ve got that coca cola red going on, and if you’ve been a redhead artificially… you know it’s about one of the hardest colors to lock into your hair.

So when HASK sent me their Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Hair Care Collection to try and share my experiences with you, I was already ecstatic, because I’ve never found that holy grail for hair care. And this? This might be it.

Hask Hair Care System

There are four products in the Color Protection collection they sent me:

  • HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Shampoo
  • HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Conditioner
  • HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Deep Conditioner
  • HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Shine Treatment

+ an adorable little pink HASK brush.

First Impressions: Oh my god. The smell. If you like a cucumber melon smell? This is better. It smells fresh, clean, energizing, gentle, natural. Just yummy. I *MAY* have run some conditioner through my hair before I even washed it just for the smell. No lie. It’s a little addicting.

I also love how it was packaged it for shipping: they actually thought to put tape over the openings! No leakage! Not even a chance for it.

From the experience journal:

Hask Color Protection Hair Care

Test #1: Wash & Condition Only

I deliberately tried a bunch of my other hair products that leave build-up for 3 days without washing prior to this. I’ll admit, I wanted to test it hard… and I did. And holy hell did it surpass any expectations. Almost all of the tangles came out of my poor abused hair before I even got to the conditioner, and in my tiny shower, this feels like being in a steam room of delicious melon air. Within seconds of adding the conditioner the rest of the tangles were gone and it just feels so healthy. I can’t stop playing with it.

Next Morning:

HASK color protection day 2

I fell asleep with my hair damp and up, and I woke up with ‘I woke up like dis’ curls, but no, seriously, I really did. Channeling some serious 80s vibe hair here in the best way. I had to leave it down all day just to play with these voluminous curls and waves. I did have a little bit of frizz though. (probably from rolling around with wet hair)

Test #2: Shine Treatment added without wash

(front, not back yet)

End of day 2 now with these and my hair actually still feels pretty healthy and it’s still holding shine, but getting a bit mussed with frizz, so time for the Shine Treatment. It smells just as good as everything else and it really doesn’t take much to smooth and run through my hair. I used about a quarter size amount and put it more through the lower layers than the top, I feel good to go for another day!

Test #3: Full Wash, Condition, & Deep Condition

Another perfect experience and leaving the deep conditioner in for 10 minutes while I did all of the dainty little things we get to do as girls to feel pretty and even *gasp* sexy, was kind of a pampering experience. I wish I’d done this in a bath and I fully intend to do that with the rest of the packet, I think I have about 4 uses in this deep conditioning packet while layering it on hella thick and indulging my senses.

Test #4: Daily Use x5 days

Final test, HASK says this is gentle enough for daily use… and well… it is. I normally go several days to a week without washing my hair (while still showering)due to the dehydrating properties of shampoos and conditioners and how they rip color from my hair, but 5 days in a row and there’s no sign of color loss in or out of the shower.

The Verdict

Hask Color Protection Hair Care

I really love the HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection system. I set aside the shampoos and conditioners I was using to try this collection, and honestly? My hair hasn’t felt better with ANY system I’ve used. Using HASK makes me feel like I’m doing my hair justice and taking care of it from the start, rather than styling it with items to correct or hide damage. I will 100% be repurchasing this collection and adding it to my long term routine.

  1. I’ve seen this stuff at the drugstore near me and I always pick it up but haven’t purchased it yet. I bought a hair mask by them which is the bomb! I’m going to have to try it out now! Thanks!

    1. Hey Danni! It looks like it should be available in most Walmarts, Sallys Beauty Supplies, and Dorians there – I believe they’re available online through those as well as in-store (Sallys looked like it for sure was).

I know that Amazon, HouseOfBeauty, Drugstore.com, and Ulta sell them online, but you may have better luck with those since I’m not too informed on shipping countries for each site 🙂
