What I Wore This Week | Palette A Week 4

A little delayed in posting this week! But I still wanted to share my results with you girls. I know I love seeing the things that my fellow beauty bloggers and makeup addicts can do with the tools of the trade and that inspiration can come from everywhere.

This last week I worked with the Smashbox (Mini) Trio in Filter:

Smashbox Mini Trio in Filter

I got this in the curated March 2016 Birchbox and it’s actually pretty lovely. The perfect little travel trio for a neutral eye whether you’re going for natural or dramatic.

I really enjoyed this week. It was nice to play with neutral colors and an extremely limited palette and while none of my looks were over the top or excessive, I feel like I got a good variety of looks that were all pretty work appropriate if needed, and could be played up or down in terms of dressiness.

This week I’ve already started on my project and… it’s a FAKE palette. Yep. I ordered a fake, semi-knowingly, with just a little bit of hope that it was real… I’ve got a fake Too Faced Semi-Sweet Palette.

The pigmentation isn’t bad, but you can tell as soon as you open it and there’s no chocolate scent that this isn’t real. Beyond any other signs or lack of serial number. I do intend to purchase a real life chocolate bar palette in the future, don’t worry! But I decided since I had this I’d try it out for a week. I’ll be doing the complete One Palette, One Week with this fake, and next week I will post an in depth review on my thoughts of the quality and my experience with a FAKE Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette.

If you’re doing any sort of makeup challenge, or just have a cool insta/twitter/blog/pinterest/etc… I’d love to check you out! Please please please feel free to link your stuff below 🙂

    1. I got it off of eBay knowing it was most likely fake but figuring it was worth a shot. And makeup ingredients are only regulated on a voluntary basis in most countries of origin. I feel like they’re probably very similar in formula to the ones I get in palettes like BH/Shany/GAGA/any other basic brand that sells 88/120/240+ colors.

I have heard that fake palettes have tested for things like bug parts and such, but if you test a toothbrush kept in the bathroom, it will be positive for not so fun stuff, and even chocolate bars have a regulated amount of bug parts that are considered safe for consumption. I tested it on my arm a few days first and saw no reaction, and so far this week there’s also been no reaction using it on my eyes. I feel safe using it personally, though I think people would be better off using HSN to buy the real thing for $29 as a valid seller.

      1. That’s good you haven’t reacted! I was mostly worried about lead… I saw a tv show, maybe 20/20 or 60 Minutes about flea market fake makeup and they all tested high in lead or some other stuff. yikes!
